KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE TOWARDS ACCEPTABILITY OF INVITRO FERTILIZATION AMONG INFERTILE COUPLES ATTENDING FERTILITY CLINIC IN NIGERIA

ABSTRACT

Infertility is a major issue among couples, and many couples just visit the clinics and keep hoping that a miracle comes through, many of them are not exposed to the fact that there is a way out of infertility especially if the cause of the infertility is understood. The broad objective of this study is to determine the knowledge of IVF among in fertile couples. This study employed a descriptive design. The target of this research will be married couples who are attending fertility clinic at Bridge clinic, Lagos. Convenience sampling technique which is a non-probability sampling technique was used to select the respondent who attended fertility clinic. Quantitative data obtained will be analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. The result of the finding shows that is there was a significant relationship between couples’ age and their willingness to undergo IVF.  The result of the study indicates that a large majority of infertile couples attending the fertility clinic have good knowledge of IVF. They also mostly have a positive attitude towards IVF and 88.2% are willing to accept IVF. IVF should be made more accessible to the public so that individuals can partake.
